Oliver Herbert

Oliver Herbert is a concert cellist known for performances that combine intensity, clarity, and a strong sense of musical direction. A recipient of a 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant, he appears as a soloist, chamber musician, and curator, performing across the Americas and Europe with conductors including Michael Tilson Thomas, Giancarlo Guerrero, Juanjo Mena, Teddy Abrams, and Alexander Shelley.

Herbert’s projects reflect a wide-ranging curiosity, with a focus on lesser-known repertoire, contemporary music, and fresh connections between familiar works. He has curated concerts for Deutschlandfunk Raderbergkonzerte and the TICA Festival in Hong Kong, and has premiered works by composers including Andrew Moses, Žibuoklė Martinaitytė, and Helena Winkelman.

As a chamber musician, Herbert appears regularly at major festivals and venues including Marlboro Music, Moritzburg Festival, La Jolla SummerFest, Rheingau Festival, ChamberFest Cleveland, Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, 92nd Street Y, and the Ravinia Festival. Recent highlights include a North American tour with Mitsuko Uchida and musicians from Marlboro Music, including a performance at Carnegie Hall. His collaborators include Janine Jansen, Jonathan Biss, and Tabea Zimmermann.
